Around Us

Bodalwyn is the perfect base from which to explore all that this beautiful part of Wales has to offer. Aberystwyth is a lively Victorian seaside resort in the heart of Cardigan Bay with much to offer all the family.

Why not enjoy a leisurely stroll along the sweeping promenade or perhaps walk up Constitution Hill (“Consti”) from where you’ll get an unrivalled view of the bay? If you don’t fancy walking, take the cliff railway – Britain’s longest electric cliff railway – to the top, where you’ll find a café/restaurant and camera obscura.

If you’re feeling energetic, get the full benefit of some fresh sea air by walking along the coastal path down to the next bay at Clarach and even further, onto Borth.

Aberystwyth has a lively night life and there’s plenty to see and do up at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre, where many household names of the music and entertainment industries can often be seen performing.

If culture is your thing, you can ponder the town’s history among the 12th century castle ruins, or discover more about the area’s fascinating past with a visit to the town’s Museum. alternatively, you can examine some of Wales’s rarest manuscripts at the national library of wales – or why not turn detective to trace your family tree? Visit the National Library of Wales, where many of the countries most treasure artefacts are stored here.

Sporty types can burn some calories by jogging along the promenade, play tennis in the local courts which are right opposite us, check out the leisure centre or play a round or two of golf at Aberystwyth Golf Club

If it’s breath taking scenery you’re after, the town is just a few minutes’ drive from some of Wales’s most beautiful countryside and many fine beaches including Ynyslas, Aberdovey and Aberaeron.

You can’t visit the area without taking the narrow-gauge steam train on a 45-minute journey up the Rheidol Valley to Devil’s Bridge, with its spectacular waterfalls and devils’ staircase. Just a mile or so on from there, you’ll find the Hafod Estate which was laid out in the “picturesque” style during the late 18th century by Thomas Johnes, a pioneer of landscape design. This truly beautiful estate receives an estimated 13,000 visitors each year.

Spend a day exploring the Cambrian Mountains or visit the Cistercian Abbey at Strata Florida. Indulge in some bird spotting at nearby Ynyslas, with its miles of golden beaches and sand dunes. Talking of birds, don’t forget to visit Bwlch Nant-yr-Arian Forest Centre just nine miles east of Aberystwyth, where the daily feeding of the red kites make an unforgettable spectacle. While you’re there, why not take a walk along one of the waymarked woodland trails or sample one of the mountain bike trails?
